I had a very uncomfortable experience with the bartender on the rooftop. From the beginning, she came across as rude and seemed like she did not want to be there. It was a busy night, and when my friend and I ordered drinks, we were accidentally given someone else’s order. Once we realized, we waited to get the bartender’s attention so we could explain the mix -up. When the other customers asked about their drinks, the bartender immediately accused us of going over the bar and stealing them, even though she was the one who had handed the drinks to us. We tried multiple times to explain what had happened, but she continued saying, “That’s theft,” and repeatedly referred to us as thieves. I even offered to pay for both drinks to resolve the situation, but the accusations continued. What made the interaction especially uncomfortable was being repeatedly accused of stealing rather than being given an opportunity to explain a simple mistake. As three people of colour being accused in this way by a white bartender, the interaction felt particularly upsetting and made us feel singled out. Regardless of intent, the situation could have been handled with much more professionalism and respect. I understand that mistakes happen, especially on a busy night, but repeatedly calling customers thieves over a drink that your staff mistakenly handed them is unacceptable. Unfortunately, this experience really affected our night.

I’ve been living in downtown London for almost 3 years and have been to plenty of clubs here. I’ve also been to Joe Kool’s many times and have spent a good amount of money there with my friends, so this experience was especially disappointing. Last Sunday, I was stopped at the front entrance after showing my passport as identification. The security staff member didn’t seem interested in actually looking at or verifying my ID and instead kept jokingly saying “no, no” and refusing me entry without giving me a proper explanation. What makes it more frustrating is that security at many other clubs in London has always been respectful and professional with me. I understand that door staff have rules to follow, but there is a respectful way to handle these situations. The way I was treated felt extremely dismissive and, honestly, made me feel like I was being treated differently because of where I come from. Not like them and ofc not from here as well. I’ve had plenty of good experiences with the staff at other clubs, which is why I simply don’t understand this kind of attitude at Joe Kool’s front door. If there was an actual issue with my passport or identification, I would have had no problem hearing the reason. Instead, I was basically brushed off. I hope management takes a serious look at how customers are being treated at the entrance. People spend their money here and deserve basic respect, regardless of their background. Oh yeah I could enter when there were some other security guards but not when that dwarf guy was standing. Some people really need to get over themselvesand their little power trip at the front door. I have been here VERY often. The one time I come and I forget my “HEALTH CARD” because they are double IDIng (which they never do). I was denied access. I have been a loyal customer since 2025 and this has never been the case. I understand that this is a guideline. But this is a bar that is commonly visited by people that are of age.
