This is truly a hidden gem. 1. The menu pleasantly surprised us. It has items that are not usually offered in Japanese restaurants. 2. We struggled with deciding what to order - that's a happy problem. 3. Notable items: > The miso soup was delicious, with tofu pieces bigger than the usual dried tofu in instant miso soup. > Natto maki! We have never seen this offered, and it was just like eating natto at home. > Hiyashi Chuka OMG! This was just like how my dad makes it, minus a few ingredients that we'll need to include LOL. Again, a rare item offered at restaurants. > ZENZAI! If you like red bean mochi, this is a must have dessert. Such a great way to end an evening of delicious food. Finding an authentic Japanese restaurant is one thing. My dad having a wonderful food experience with dessert triggering memories from Japan, priceless. So, thank you Shiki Japanese Restaurant! We're not local but we already want to come back.

Something changed at Shiki. We come twice a year as we’re from Toronto and their food used to blow me away. We visited recently and the salmon zakkushi had something missing. It just didn’t wow me like the last time I was here. Maybe it’s the lack of vinegar in the rice? The dressing on their salads were extraordinary, but this time, it was totally different and creamy. It used to have carrot and ginger. This time it was sesame. Service is excellent, atmosphere is status quo. Maybe it was a miss this time but I used to be wowed every time I came. Sadly disappointed because I would look forward to eating here twice a year. Would love to know if ownership has changed, as that could be the reason why the food is different. ——— This review below was 2 years ago. Lovely mom and pop shop. The food was fresh and delicious. Will return. Sashimi, and udon was so yummy. So was the ochazuke with the grilled salmon. It has that divine smoky flavour.
