London is getting 5 new nonstop flights!

After touring the old Middlesex jail, I wanted to follow one of its most infamous stories a little further. So a friend and I headed to Lucan to visit the Donnelly Museum and dig into the local history behind the legend.

The Donnelly story is one of those pieces of Southwestern Ontario history where fact, folklore and family feud have become tightly tangled together.

If you are new and don’t know the story: After five members of the Donnelly family were murdered near Lucan in February 1880, the accused were brought to the Middlesex County Courthouse in London. The first murder trial ended with a hung jury; a second trial resulted in an acquittal. No one was ever convicted for the massacre.

✈️ Porter Airlines adds 5 nonstop routes from London

The Gist: More travel options are coming to London! Porter Airlines is launching five year-round nonstop routes from London International Airport beginning in spring 2027. Travellers will be able to fly directly to Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver, with the first flights taking off in April. All five routes will feature aircraft with no middle seats.

Why It Matters: For London-area travellers, this means more opportunities to fly across Canada without driving to Toronto Pearson or making connections along the way. The new routes will make London International Airport a more convenient option for both business trips and family vacations.

🚀 $30M rocket testing facility coming to London

The Gist: Canada Rocket Company has broken ground on a $30 million rocket engine testing facility at London International Airport. Named after London-born astronaut Jeremy Hansen, the site will feature up to three engine testing stands alongside a 12,000-square-foot office and fabrication building. The facility is expected to be fully operational by 2028.

Why It Matters: The project is expected to create at least 40 local jobs over the next 18 months and bring new aerospace opportunities to the region. The company is also developing training partnerships with Western University and Fanshawe College, potentially opening doors for local students interested in engineering and aerospace careers.
